Friday Food Finds: Serene Snacks
I’m always in the market for snacks that keep you in balance. It’s hard enough to stay serene, why would you choose foods that pull you away from that place of peace and happiness? I taught this week in my classes that you cultivate your own happiness. It’s much easier to find happiness if your diet is in balance. This week I’m focused on tasty snacks or grab-n-go foods that are just as healthful as if you sat down for a meal.
1. Two Moms in the RAW
This week I was introduced to Two Moms in the RAW granola bars. I tried both the goji berry and blueberry granola. The bars are dairy-free, wheat-free, gluten-free, 100 percent raw, and 100 percent organic.
The bars are made with oat groats, agave, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, fruit, millet, sesame seeds, flax seeds, pecans, almonds, and sea salt. If that’s not a clean ingredient list then I don’t know what is. These bars satiate hunger without sending you into a sugar high.
2. Really Raw Honey
Raw honey is the most healthful sweetener you can find. Really Raw Honey is the concentrated nectar of flowers that comes straight from the extractor; it’s never heated, pasteurized, or processed. Raw honey tends to look milkier than regular honey and it has a low moisture content. According to WHFoods, phytonutrients found in raw honey have cancer-preventing and anti-tumor properties. However, according to Global Healing Center, raw honey contains botulinum endospores, so children under one year old should not be given honey. Raw honey is great in tea or on a peanut butter and honey sandwich.
3. Pumpkin Seeds
I’ve been putting pumpkin seeds on everything lately because they are a fabulous source of iron. It’s the seed that I’ve been disregarding for so long. Pumpkin seeds are also loaded with manganese, magnesium, tryptophan, copper, zinc, and protein. Both magnesium and tryptophan calm you down and serve as a sleep aid.
